What we noticed

    How the check works

We estimate the password's entropy from its length and the kinds of characters it uses, then take points off for patterns attackers try early: common passwords, repeated characters, keyboard sequences, years, and a word followed by a few digits.

    About the time to guess

It assumes an attacker who has stolen a database of fast password hashes and can try ten billion guesses a second, needing on average half of all possibilities. Real attacks may be slower or faster, so treat it as a rough comparison, not a promise.

    Strong is not enough

A strong password that is reused, or already in a breach, is not safe. Use our breached password checker, and use each password for one account only.

Never make up a password again

KeyCare Pass makes strong passwords, remembers them and fills them in for you.

    Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to type my real password here?

The check happens entirely in this page and makes no network requests. If you are unsure, check a password that is similar instead.

Why does my password with symbols score low?

Predictable substitutions and patterns, like P@ssw0rd2026!, are among the first things attackers try. Length and randomness matter more than symbols.
